Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cant Recommend - Made of Recycled Material vest Not what I was expecting from an Essex Vest looks and feels like plastic. Color looks bright blue on website. It is way more muted than I expected. I have two other Essex vests that I feel & look way superior.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flagship to fast fashion: analysis paralysis Junior chap at corporate, armed with a spreadsheet and tasked with protecting margins, has clearly missed that this was one of Peter Millar’s most successful and in-demand lines. What once enticed customers and served as a gateway into the wider collection has been obliterated in one foul swoop. Cheaper materials, the lack of a decent lining, and the loss of internal pockets render this no better than fast-fashion, mass-produced, short-lifespan tat. Now in its third season, despite constant consumer feedback pleading for a return to its glory days, the copy-paste line about “continually refining based on customer feedback” falls on deaf ears. Sadly, the Suffolk line is befallen to the same fate as the Essex. A lack of appreciation that clients here are consumer discretionary spenders. Try this: compare the incremental basket value and profits generated by those who historically purchased Essex/Suffolk lines to now, it may prove genuinely shocking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont Buy if you are tall Not the same size as other products. Too short for someone that is over 6ft 2. Dont buy as they now charge for returns which is crazy give they are primarily online store and charge a premium price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality has Dropped I have an older version in blue that I love. Ordered an olive one and they have completely ruined the quality and design. Much thinner, cheaper materials, no soft touch insides and stitching is not as nice...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart vest. I like it a lot. This vest is a little heavier (while not heavy) than other vests I own. I'm between a medium and a large, I bought the medium but think I can get away with it. Comfortable, 'smart' looking with solid subtle details and I should be able to get a 'lot' of use out of it. Should be able to use it well on the golf course on cooler days as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What Changed? My Second Essex vest…. This one is not the same as my previous purchase from a few years ago. It feels lighter and the material is just not the same.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total crap vest! The Gap makes better clothing…. I use to purchase Peter Millar bc of the quality. I wanted to replace my old vest so I ordered the exact vest and the newer version for the same price has no insulation like before. I could buy a better version @ the gap. I don’t mind paying a premium for quality but this product it total crap! Extremely Disappointed ☹️

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the same vest as before I loved the previous version of this vest. I damaged my first one and was glad to see Peter Milar still made the same model. When I received the new one a was completely disappointed they had changed the material, style, and comfort. The current version is not worth the price. I am returning it. If they go back to the previous version I will buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Satisfied This was the number one item my son wanted for Christmas. He absolutely loves it and it looks fantastic. The quality of your products is second to none!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a Huge letdown! I had previously purchased two other Essex Vests, which I loved and had looked forward to yet another. This new iteration is a HUGE letdown. Inferior recycled materials, plastic features instead of metal zippers…. This product has definitely gone backwards and I can not recommend it. It is not Peter Millar quality anymore.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Peter Millar, don't over think it — just go back! I've never written a review for anything in my life, but I'm legitimately disappointed in how substantially the quality has degraded in just a couple of years. I purchased the Essex Vest's sleeved cousin, the Suffolk Coat, around the end of 2023, and it is easily the most regularly worn item in my closet during the cooler months. It fits in everywhere—from the office to date nights or even around the ranch—and has held up beautifully. This vest looks almost indistinguishable from 10 feet away, but once you hold it in your hand, it feels like a cheap knock-off. The interior stitching and trim aren't even comparable in quality, there are fewer interior pockets, and the ones that are there are more awkward and baggy. In my opinion, the worst part is that the zippers are now plastic instead of metal, which is the reason I'm taking the time to write this review: the polymer insertion pin (starter) disintegrated in my hand on the second day I wore it, so now you can no longer zip the vest. On the bright side, the designer did add a little tag that says it's made of recycled materials from the dump. If this is your first jacket/vest from Peter Millar, you'll probably like it (assuming it holds up), but if you knew how good it was, you'll be disappointed. TLDR: Looks good, shoddy quality compared to the previous versions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Definite downgrade in quality... Unfortunately, it seems there was a design change on this vest, for the worse. This new design has less comfort/detail inside with the soft material, there is no detailed piping anymore, there is less insulation, they went from quality metal zippers to cheap plastic zippers, and overall the item just feels cheaper and less quality construction than before. I have no idea who thought this was a good idea. This is a premium brand, if you need to raise costs to keep up with cost of manufacturing, you do. You don't cut corners on a new product, its a bad look and I am very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great I buy allot of your product but I am upset that the day after I ordered this vest you offered a thermos if I ordered $200 . Needless to say I am not happy because I buy allot of your product. Looks like I have to buy more Johnny O Dunning and Travis Mathews

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing - at this price I just received my third Essex Vest. The other 2, I bought the other 2 I purchased 5-6 years ago and I am shocked to see how much the quality has decreased but price continues to increase. Less lining, no buttons, no chest pocket etc. Disappointing. Quality has greatly decreased over time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from essex vest a disappointment the new version of the essex vest, while nice, is far inferior to the previous version. The collar on the new version is cheap looking and arrives "dented" in a reverse type fold and it won't come out. The old essex vest was one on the best on the market . Better vests are available at a lower price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge let down I cannot express how disappointed I am in this new Essex vest. The build, materials, and finishing of this new Essex vest (vs the last style iteration) are all a significant downgrade, but of course for the same price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed Well - I’m very disappointed with your current Essex Vests! Having purchased 3 previous vests from your earlier generation Essex collection the comparison is significant! The earlier generation vests were complimented with very soft fleece throughout the inside lining as well as the inside collar, pocket piping and along the front zipper. And the tufting of all the quilted areas were thicker and therefore adding much more warmth! We also lost an inside breast pocket. The current generation are stiffer and definitely not as comfortable! Also because the collars are therefore stiffer, when they’re packaged flat for shipping, they have an unflattering crease that can only be improved on by setting a kettle bell on top of it for a few days! You’ve added “made with recycled materials” that I’m not sure if it changed the composition. Anyway, not very pleased for $250. each!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought, returned - cutting costs, cutting quality After reading the reviews, I am returning the vest. Looks like the consensus is Peter Millar is cutting corners on quality with this year's version of the vest

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So Disappointed We are so disappointed with the latest version of the Essex best that we will no longer be a customer. The elimination of pockets and piping reduced the vest’s usefulness and style. We understand you face increased costs, and expected a price hike. But we will no longer pay a premium price for something that looks like it comes from Target and that no longer meets my husband’s needs. This is bad for your brand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bring back the classic styling Love the new colors and the jacket style, unfortunately, the interior finish of all polyester and thin filling seems like a cheaper version of the same jacket I purchased a few years ago. Returned as I had a tough time justifying the $250 price tag. Hope next year's style will incorporate some of the earlier classic styling

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Initially Underwhelming, But It Won Me Over This is a great light weight vest. Previous versions of the Essex Vest had more insulation and pockets on the inside which left me disappointed at first. However, after wearing this vest for over a year, I'm happy with the designer's decision to remove some of the insulation and turn the vest into a shell because it makes it versatile.
