Who is Peter Millar

It all started with a gift from mother to son. Chris Knott chose the name Peter Millar for the company he founded in 2001 from an inscription on an antique lawn bowling ball given to him by his mother. While the origin of the name behind the artifact is a mystery, Chris felt that the name and antique represented an era when people cared deeply at all times about what kind of impression they were creating. As the name and brand suggests, the Peter Millar collection captures the classical elegance of American luxury sportswear.

Great style is not something that Peter Millar takes for granted. The Peter Millar Design team takes absolute pride in paying attention to the small details, authentic materials, and quality construction that transform simple garments and accessories into something truly tailored. As the Creative Director of the company, Chris instills a sense of style and charm into the product line that cannot be imitated.

    The former Polo Ralph Lauren Executive and industry veteran with over 20 years experience, is an expert at brand building and licensing and Scott has tended to Peter Millar's groundbreaking growth and breadth as a go-to fashion commodity during a maelstrom of economic climates. He's guiding Peter Millar's path to markets overseas.

    Design is not just Chris' job, it's his métier; he learned design not by study, but by doing and started at an early age. Working as a teenager at Ashworth's Clothing in his hometown, Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Chris later served as a sales representative for Hugo Boss, Joseph Abboud and Burberry with an impressive 20 plus year background within the industry. Unlike his fashion peers, Chris calls on his practical experience in working at retail – and, most importantly, with retailers and their best customers – as the force guiding Peter Millar's design.

  • Todd Martin

    President Peter Millar Golf, joined the company in January 2010

    With over 16 years of experience in the better golf apparel market, Todd is one of the most respected and experienced golf sales executives in the industry. Todd was a founding team member of Fairway & Greene back in 1994 and rose to become the company's President in 2006. He was also named President of Zero Restriction Outerwear in 2008, both roles and responsibilities he handled until his departure in late 2009. Todd's outstanding customer relationships with golf professionals and merchandisers across the country, and knowledge of the green grass market is a tremendous addition to our growing and dynamic golf business.

    With nearly 20 years of finance and accounting experience, Kim brings a depth of knowledge and operational expertise to our growing company. Kim’s career spans from auditing and due diligence services at PricewaterhouseCoopers to in-house M&A and planning/analysis for Eastman Kodak to VP Finance, Real Estate, and IT for The Body Shop in the Americas. Her breadth of experience allows her to bring the same enthusiasm and discipline to Peter Millar’s back office operations as we demonstrate with our customers.

  • Scott Ruerup

    Vice President of Retail

    A luxury apparel industry veteran with nearly 20 years of experience, Scott Ruerup joined Peter Millar as Vice President of Retail in December 2012. Scott previously served three years as Vice President of Sales at Hickey Freeman, where he was responsible for all sales and sales management functions. Prior to Hickey Freeman, Scott spent 15 years with Oxxford Clothes, ultimately serving as Executive Vice President, where he oversaw and directed sales, merchandising, and marketing. With extensive relationships with some of the finest specialty retailers in the world, Scott will be instrumental in leading Peter Millar’s sales efforts in our growing retail channels.

    Brian is a global consumer products executive with more than 20 years experience in international sales and distribution, product development, marketing strategy and execution. Brian has worked for Wilson Sporting Goods in Munich, Germany and Cervelo Bicycles in Toronto, Canada. During his career, he has spent 15 years working in the Far East for sourcing, product development, and distribution. Brian brings valuable international expertise that will play a vital role in Peter Millar’s continued strategic growth on a global scale.
